Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) wants to set up five-star luxurious hotels for the first time in the hill state, in order to attract affluent tourists in larger numbers.

According to a report in Business Standard by Baldev S Chauhan, state government officials of Himachal Pradesh said that Shimla, Manali, Chail and Kasauli could each get an HPTDC five-star property. While HPTDC has already been given a nod by the state government, the details of building these hotels are likely to be further discussed at a board meeting of the company (HPTDC), which will happen soon.

The state government was already in the process of getting private parties to invest in this ambitious expansion programme, sources said. While Shimla and Manali are some of the most popular resort towns in northern India, Chail and Kasauli also attract tourists in large numbers.

HPTDC currently has over fifty hotels across Himachal Pradesh. They are located in some of the best locations and quiet a few are housed in heritage buildings.
