Singapore inbound tourism up 7.1%

There were some encouraging signs of the start of a recovery in tourism in Singapore in September with visitor arrivals up +7.1%, registering the first monthly increase this year at 799,000 arrivals, according to the Singapore Tourism Board.
Malaysia (+51.2%) and Indonesia (+26.8%) registered double-digit growth in September 2009 compared to the same period a year ago due to Hari Raya holidays, while Japan posted its first growth (+7.7%) this year due to the Silver Week holidays.
There were also increases recorded from several other nationalities with visitor arrivals from Vietnam up +9.0%, India (+6.7%), Germany (+5.0%), Hong Kong (+3.5%), the Philippines (+2.8%), the UK (+1.4%), and Australia (+0.8%).
